Across the pond from the U.S., postal workers in Liverpool, England were on strike for the past several day. Nine days, to be exact. The members of the Communication Worker’s Union (CWU) went on an unofficial strike last week apparently over the rights to local negotiations about flex schedules. As you can imagine, no deliveries of parcels can and does have a major effect on business. Surely, Liverpool is glad their mail men and women are back in the saddle today, as 90% of the striking workers voted to end the defiance.
Strikes are controversial being that unions are seen as a thing of the past in many people’s eyes. Personally, I’ve never been part of a union however I can see the disadvantages and benefits for the employees. I’d love to have your input on the matter, particularly if you or someone you know works directly or indirectly with a union-prevalent environment.

One Response for "Liverpool Postal Workers End Strike - What Do You Think?"
The strike affected us really badly and I know it did others. For me the worst thing was not being able to send out marketing promotions. But sending out invoices and getting cash in was also a problem.
Unions cause so much trouble. I was talking to a woman who said she knew families where there was still a rift caused by union action in the 70’s.
I’ve worked a couple of places where there were unions. In both cases the union reps were loud mouthed troublemakers who were not good at their jobs.
IMHO there are plenty of jobs here for those who actually want to work and if the post people don’t like their conditions they should go and work somewhere else. We have minimum wage rules in this country now, so they’re not being ripped off. The people who aren’t getting paid enough are many of the immigrants who are brought in.
They are exploited by low life scum. And often, as well as being ripped off on their wages, many of these taskmasters pile loads of them into one house and rip them off on their rent.
I’ve come across so called plumbing companies who do things like this, and I’ve written an article advising people to stop using them.
I have nothing against foreign people coming to work here, but we shouldn’t be exploiting them - it’s like a modern day slave trade.
They should sack the strikers and give those people the opportunity to earn a decent wage instead.
