I had a slow start to my morning today and it was mostly due to lack of planning on my part. I’m normally on the ball when it comes to getting a great start in the a.m., but I’m *yawn* feeling the effects of ignoring a routine I’ve crafted. Here are 5 important tips that I follow to become energized for my exciting days.

- Fall asleep at a reasonable hour.  Notice how I said fall asleep and not “get into bed”, as these are two different things. If you take a bit of time to doze off like I do, compensate for that by getting into bed a little earlier.

- At night, setting my thermostat lower than during the day. It’s been proven in many studies that the human body enters a deeper sleep in lower temperatures. Deeper sleep means better rest, and better rest means more energy for work.

- Hydrating before sleeping. Drinking a few glasses of water in the couple hours before you rest is a great way to alleviate sore muscles/joints and to wake up feeling more refreshed.

- Eating a healthy breakfast. I cannot stress this point enough; it’s extremely beneficial for the body to have nutrition in the morning before starting work.

- Stimulating the mind before entering the job environment. If you read or listen to something briefly in the a.m., you’ll be better set mentally to focus on the day’s tasks. Don’t let a bad e-mail be your first dose of brain work.
